Joe & Friends
oil on gessoed paper
Here is my contribution to Edward Burton's sketchbook for The Flying Moleskins. His theme is music so I choose a favorite local jazz musician, Joe McQueen, who just celebrated his 91st birthday and is still performing. I would have like to have spent more time on this, but it's deadline time!
To learn more about Joe McQueen and hear him tell his story click here. To see and hear him play click here.

Great painting, Michelle!
Such a sophisticated and somehow simple elegance to this piece, Michelle. It is lovely!
Really nice, Michelle.
I love this. It captures the mood so perfectly. It looks like a 1940's painting, to match the style of music. You did a great job with it!
It's a wonderful painting. Love the quiet spaces and the rhythm of the musicians and instruments. Joe must be quite a person!
wonderful Michelle
i love how you managed to get the piano looking so shiny! great job!
Very nicely done. Lots to consider and you did it beautifully.
Very nice work
What a fun piece! I can almost hear the music!
This is a very unique piece. Not pretentious, just very real and believable. I enjoyed looking at your work.
